## Short answer

Buy the eero 7 if your plan is 2.5 Gbps or slower and you don't need the 6 GHz band; it is the only one of the three without it. Choose the eero Pro 7 for 6 GHz devices and plans up to about 5 Gbps. The eero Max 7 only makes sense for plans or wired devices faster than 5 Gbps, at about twice the Pro 7's price.

## Key takeaways

- The eero 7 is dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz). The eero Pro 7 and eero Max 7 add the 6 GHz band, which Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices can use.
- Ethernet is the biggest dividing line: two 2.5 GbE ports on the eero 7, two 5 GbE on the Pro 7, and two 10 GbE plus two 2.5 GbE on the Max 7.
- On eero.com on October 19, 2026, a single unit cost $169.99 (eero 7), $299.99 (Pro 7) and $599.99 (Max 7).
- eero's speed figures are maximums, not what one phone or laptop will get. eero says its maximum network speeds combine wired and wireless clients.
- All three can mesh together and with older eeros. The FCC lists eero's routers among those with Conditional Approval, running to October 31, 2027.

For most homes, the eero 7 is enough: eero says it suits internet plans up to 2.5 Gbps, and it costs $169.99 per unit on eero.com. Step up to the eero Pro 7 ($299.99 per unit) if you own Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 devices that can use the 6 GHz band, or your plan is faster than 2.5 Gbps. The eero Max 7 (from $599.99) is for the small group with plans or wired devices faster than 5 Gbps. Prices were checked on eero.com on October 19, 2026.

This guide compares Amazon's three indoor Wi-Fi 7 eeros using eero's own specifications, support pages and price listings. We have not tested these units ourselves, so treat the speed and coverage figures below as eero's claims, not our measurements. eero also sells the eero PoE 7 for wall or ceiling mounting and the eero Outdoor 7; they're not covered here.

## The short answer: which eero fits which home

| If you... | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pay for 1 Gbps or less and mostly have older phones and laptops | eero 7 | Same 2,000 sq. ft. per-unit estimate as the Pro 7, lowest price |
| Have Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 devices, or a plan above 2.5 Gbps and up to 5 Gbps | eero Pro 7 | Adds the 6 GHz band and 5 GbE ports |
| Have a plan or wired devices faster than 5 Gbps | eero Max 7 | The only one with 10 GbE ports and 4x4 radios on 5 and 6 GHz |

## Specs side by side

All figures are from eero's support pages, comparison pages and product sheet. Speeds are eero's "up to" maximums.

| eero.com price, 1 unit (Oct. 19, 2026) | $169.99 | $299.99 | From $599.99 |

*eero's Pro 7 shop page and launch announcement say up to 2,000 sq. ft. per unit, but the spec table on its Pro 7 support page and its product comparison page say 2,500. We use the lower figure. eero's compare page also lists the eero 7's wired maximum as 2.5 Gbps rather than 2.3.

## What actually separates them

### The 6 GHz band

The eero 7 is the only one of the three without 6 GHz. That band is reserved for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices, so if your phones and laptops are older, they can't use it anyway and the eero 7 gives up little. If you've bought a recent flagship phone or laptop that supports 6 GHz, the Pro 7 or Max 7 lets it connect there. Our [Wi-Fi 6E vs. Wi-Fi 7 guide](https://wifiweekly.com/guides/wifi-6e-vs-wifi-7/) explains what the 6 GHz band and wider channels do.

### Ethernet ports set the speed ceiling

The port speeds are the clearest way to match an eero to your internet plan. eero says the eero 7 suits plans up to 2.5 Gbps and the Pro 7 plans up to 5 Gbps. For the Max 7, Amazon's 2023 launch announcement said plans up to 10 Gbps; eero's current compare page lists plan support up to 9.4 Gbps. A 2.5 GbE port can't pass a 5 Gbps plan at full speed, so buy for the plan you have or expect to have soon. If you're unsure whether your plan or devices need multi-gig ports at all, see [do you need a multi-gig router?](https://wifiweekly.com/guides/do-you-need-a-multi-gig-router/)

The ports matter for mesh too. If you can run Ethernet between units, a wired link between eeros avoids sharing airtime with your devices; our guide to [wired vs. wireless backhaul](https://wifiweekly.com/guides/mesh-wifi-wired-vs-wireless-backhaul/) covers how eero handles it.

### The Max 7's extra radios

The Max 7 has four streams (4x4) on its 5 GHz and 6 GHz radios, where the eero 7 and Pro 7 have two. eero doesn't publish what that adds in practice. Note that eero's own Max 7 speed claims come from a test against a second Max 7 set up as a two-stream (2x2) client, not a four-stream one.

## Read eero's speed numbers carefully

The "BE" numbers (BE5000, BE10800, BE20800) are rating classes on the spec sheets, not speeds eero says a device will see; eero's own "up to" figures are much lower. Those figures are best-case maximums. eero says its maximum network speeds "reflect combined supported speeds across wired and wireless clients," and that coverage and speed vary with placement, interference, building materials and connected devices. For the Max 7, eero says its speed claims come from a lab test with iPerf3 against another Max 7 acting as a client. Expect less in a real home, where your internet plan and your walls often set the limit first.

These are also local network speeds, not internet speeds. eero notes that internet speeds depend on your provider.

## Prices and what you pay per square foot

eero.com prices on October 19, 2026:

| Pack | eero 7 | eero Pro 7 | eero Max 7 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 unit | $169.99 | $299.99 | $599.99 (low end of listed range) |
| 2 units | $284.99 | $549.99 | Not confirmed today |
| 3 units | $399.99 | $799.99 | $1,699.99 |

eero's Pro 7 shop page lists the Max 7 at "$599.99 to $1,699.99"; we couldn't confirm a current two-pack price, so we've left it blank. Some prices are higher than at launch. In February 2025, Amazon listed the eero 7 three-pack at $349.99 and the Pro 7 three-pack at $699.99; today they're $399.99 and $799.99. Retailer and ISP prices may differ.

Using eero's coverage estimates, a home of about 4,000 sq. ft. needs two eero 7 units ($284.99) or two Pro 7 units ($549.99) on paper. The two-pack Pro 7 costs $265 more for the 6 GHz band and faster ports. Two Max 7 units would cover an estimated 5,000 sq. ft.; at the $599.99 low end of eero's listed range, two singles would cost $1,199.98, more than twice the Pro 7 two-pack. (Amazon's 2023 launch price for the Max 7 two-pack was $1,149.99.) Real coverage depends on layout and materials, so treat these as starting points.

## Things all three share

- **Mixing models.** eero describes the eero 7 as backwards compatible with previous eero hardware. Its Pro 7 page warns that mixing it with older eero hardware can reduce network performance, so put the newest, fastest unit at the modem.
- **Smart home radios.** eero lists Thread, a Zigbee smart home hub, and Matter (as a controller) on all three.
- **eero Plus is optional.** It adds what eero calls advanced security features and expanded parental controls, for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year in the US.
- **Software updates.** For how long eero supports each model and how to check, see [is my router still getting security updates?](https://wifiweekly.com/guides/is-my-router-still-getting-security-updates/)
- **US sales status.** In its July 27, 2026 public notice, the FCC listed eero's routers (eero, eero Pro, eero Max, eero PoE, eero Outdoor and eero Signal) among those with Conditional Approval, running from April 22, 2026 to October 31, 2027.

## Bottom line

Pick by your devices and your plan, not by the top speed on the box. The eero 7 is the value choice for plans up to 2.5 Gbps and homes without 6 GHz devices. The eero Pro 7 is the middle ground for newer phones and laptops and plans up to 5 Gbps. The eero Max 7 is for multi-gig plans and wired gear faster than 5 Gbps.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the eero Pro 7 worth it over the eero 7?

If you have phones, tablets or laptops that support Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, or an internet plan faster than 2.5 Gbps, yes: the Pro 7 adds the 6 GHz band and 5 GbE ports. If your devices are older and your plan is 1 Gbps or less, the eero 7 covers the same 2,000 sq. ft. per unit, in eero's estimate, for less.

### Do I need the eero Max 7 for gigabit internet?

No. eero says the eero 7 suits plans up to 2.5 Gbps and the Pro 7 plans up to 5 Gbps. The Max 7's 10 GbE ports matter only if your plan or a wired device such as a network storage drive runs faster than 5 Gbps.

### Can I mix eero 7, eero Pro 7 and older eeros in one network?

Yes. eero describes the eero 7 as backwards compatible with previous eero hardware. Its Pro 7 page warns that mixing it with older eero hardware can reduce network performance, so put your fastest unit at the modem.

### Do I need an eero Plus subscription?

No, eero Plus is an optional add-on that eero describes as adding advanced security features and expanded parental controls. eero lists it at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year in the US.

### How many eeros do I need?

eero rates the eero 7 and Pro 7 at up to 2,000 sq. ft. per unit and the Max 7 at up to 2,500 sq. ft. per unit. eero says these estimates assume normal use and that building materials, obstructions and placement affect real range, so plan for more units in a home with many walls or floors.
